Rajgad Fort Information





RAJGAD

Height : 1394 Meters.

Type : Hill fort.

District : Pune .

Difficulty : Medium.





Time to reach :  1)   2 1/2 hours via Pali Route.
                         2)    3 1/2 hours via Gunjawane.


Best Season to visit: Monsoons and the Winter season(sept -jan).


Location       :   The fort is located 60 km to the South West of Pune, about 15 km West of NASRAPUR in the SAHYADRIS  range.
About  : Formally the Rajgad is know as Murumdev . Rajgad Is the capital of Maratha Empire             during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for about 26 year then after the capital is move to Raigad.
 This fort is made during the 17th century with its giant dual walls, secret passages, main passages, buildings, temples, water cisterns and locations as per instruction from Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.  The diameter of the fort is 40 km .
History : There are lots of historic  event happen on this fort . 
                It is the birth of Shivaji’s son Rajaram. 
                This is the death place of  shivaji’s Queen Saibai .
                 The return of Shivaji from Agra. 
                 The burial of Afzal Khan’s head in the Mahadarwaja walls 
                               of Balle Killa.
Route: There are Total Three  route 
1)From Gunjawane :This route is little but tough which lead to Chor Darwaja. It Takes 3 1/2 hrs to reach the Balle Killa by taking 4-5 break during the trek  . 
2)From Pali village : This is the best route for the inexperience trekker .This route lead to main door of the fort .
3) From Bhor Route : This is not very popular route . But if you want to experience something different ,then you should definitely try this route.

THINGS TO CARRY:

1.Food & Water : At least carry 3-4 litre water per person And also carry Some food . You can also cook your food up there .There Are 2 pond ,the water in that pond is also good for drinking after boiling . Even there are small Hotel at the bottom start of the fort (Gunjawane)
2.Shelter : There are two 2 temple Padmavati and a smaller temple which you can use for staying  during night ,if you do not have tents. 
               Padmavati Temple : 50 people
                          Smaller temple: 6-7 people
                But in winter carry  sleeping bag

3. Fire Camp: There is no need to carry firewood because the villagers sell firewood for Rs 100 or according  to the requirement .
4. Carry First Aid box 
          5. Extra pair of cloth : carry warm cloth because the temp get low
               during night
6. Torch 
7. Sunglasses 
8. Tissue paper  
9. Utensil for cooking 
10. Mat ,Bedsheet
